I AM HOPE: Amazing Race

The event drew participants from various sectors including academe, youth organizations, civil society, mass media, international organizations, etc., all for the cause of 80 Kythe kids who were also joined by members of their families to make this gathering truly joyous and poignant. The race patterned after the award-winning “Amazing Race” with tasks to perform at each stage, was participated in by ten groups of three participants each representing World Vision, AHON foundation, Mio fights Cancer, U! Happy, Ateneo Economics Association, DLSU otaract, UST Unicef who battled it out at La Mesa Eco Park last January 15 for the title of “most amazing racers”. They underwent different tasks that tested their strength, teamwork, and patience in the different stations around the venue. The Kythe kids and volunteers were not left empty-handed; while the race was ongoing, a simultaneous program was happening at the Petron Ampi-theater. Performers include the Cardio Boys, Magicians, Blue Repertory and a story telling and dance presentation from the cast of TV5 children’s show, Batibot. One of the outstanding features of the program was the interaction of the volunteers with the kids as they roamed around the activity area to try the various food and game booths prepared by the sponsors and other partner organizations. A highlight of the event was the release of one hundred butterflies by both the Kythe kids and volunteers to symbolize how the power of hope lifts us up during our darkest moments and that in the Amazing Race of life, the kids are our true champions.
