Luna Isabel

The name Luna Isabel will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of pediatric patients who enter the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) playroom. On May 19,2018, the family of Jim and Saab Magalona-Bacarro unveiled the Luna Isabel Magalona-Bacarro marker, dedicating the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) playroom in memory of their baby girl who died at birth. This special event was posted on social media, and since that day, there were a number of people who called and said they wanted to give toys, books and art materials for the Luna Isabel playroom. Toy Kingdom was one of those who called and said management would like to donate a playhouse, tables, rubber matting and the like. The toys have been picked up and are now ready to be taken out of the boxes, and be used by the pediatric patients.

The family of Luna Isabel did not only provide a comfortable play area for the children, but gave their support for the implementation of the Kythe Child Life Program at the QMMC pediatric ward. Kuya Gibbs Dacara, has been chosen to be the QMMC-Kythe Child Life Coordinator who will provide QMMC pediatric patients with therapeutic play, education and preparation about their illness and emotional support for parents. Kuya Gibbs, is a graduate of social work and has experience in engaging the youth and volunteer groups. Beginning July, the Kythe Child Life Program will be fully implemented at the QMMC pediatric ward.

We thank Jim and Saab Magalona-Bacarro and family for sharing Luna Isabel with Kythe-QMMC pediatric patients. Luna Isabel’s memory will continue to live in each of the children’s fun and laughter.
