Kythes Dr. Angie Sievert-Fernandez receives APCASOT fellowship

Kythe Child Life Program Manager Dr. Angie Sievert-Fernandez was awarded an Asia Pacific Cancer Society Training Grant (APCASOT) by the Union for International Cancer Control. The grant took Doc Angie to study for one week at the Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) in Brisbane, Australia, as one of five fellows from developing countries who are leaders in their own voluntary cancer societies.

From May 4–8, 2015, five fellows from developing countries had the chance to participate in the APCASOT program with the focus on “Introduction to Cancer Control.” They met and engaged in small group discussions with CCQ staff, learning the best practices of the various departments.

A significant part of the study included visits to two of CCQ’s lodges, the Ellis Lodge in South Brisbane and the Olive McMahon Lodge in Toowomba, and participating in the Relay for Life in Lockyer Valley. Relay for Life is an overnight community fundraising walk where survivors, caregivers, and supporters come together with a commitment to take action in the fight against cancer.

In stepping forward to join the international community and building different advocacies as a representative, Kythe warmly congratulates Doc Angie.
